New Dying Soldier Lyrics — Nick Shoulders

Oh, brother Green
Won't you come to me?
For I am shot and bleeding
Dig me a grave
And stow me away
For I am not shovelin'

And every war is a rich man's war
And every fight a failure
Please know that we
Are not your enemy
Please know that we forgive you

I grew up on a battlefield
Where boys lay dead and dying
Don't tread on we, oh brother Green
To reach you, I am trying

Jim Riley, he nearly starved you see
Faced every shell at Vicksburg
The western shore
He swam until he reached
And I still hear that water
I will not fear that water
