This is a bright movie about unfortunate elderly person, who accidentally kills Kate Moss – a top model! This is a British film (and that is why it is with the same accent, which you don’t always understand, if you are speaking normal English, not British language). It has many French items in its soundtrack, for example, Je t'aime... moi non plus or Le Jeu du Telephone. Mostly, lyrics of all songs here are lightweight and aimed on purposeful living, as the screen hero has. The same, like, for example, Hangin' song. The only one that would somehow possibly be opposed to all the rest is Sexotheque, which follows the mental anguish of the person, who drowns his time in night butterflies and avoids being with his wife. These lyrics are full of meaning. As for the stars in the collection, they are few: Kylie Minogue and Leonard Cohen. All other names you would probably never hear unless you’d faced this collection. In the voice of Leonard Cohen in the song ‘Bird on a Wire’ indispensably heard the notes from his immortal ‘Halleluiah’. At least, the version that he did, not Jon Bon Jovi or Rufus Wainwright, who popularized this item in Shrek, so everyone went mad from this spiritual creation, is nice. As for the story – it tells of person in age, who lost the life aim long-long time ago and now tries to fill it somehow. As the plot evolves, the main hero finds out that her the same elderly woman-friend is a former man! Can you imagine? Well, not to lose such anchor, the music producers have added several songs in the collection that point out at the man-woman transgender stuff. You could try to search for those gems at your own. Will it be funny? If you like humor built only on slackery & age – yes. If you prefer less enigmatic stuff, like Captain America has – well, it is simply not your movie.
"Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016)" Soundtrack: Description.
Background
Champagne-sloshed chaos needs a runway soundtrack, and this one struts. For the big-screen reunion of Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone, the music team leaned into glossy pop, catwalk strut, and a wink of nostalgia. The album arrived via Rhino in July 2016, spotlighting a brand-new cover of “This Wheel’s on Fire” by Kylie Minogue alongside sleek cuts from Jason Derulo, La Roux, Paloma Faith, and more. You can hear the brief: fashion-forward, pleasure-first, with just enough camp to feel like home for AbFab lifers.Official Trailer
Musical Styles & Themes
The vibe glitters. Think runway-ready electro-pop rubbing shoulders with nineties-leaning diva sparkle and disco after-hours. Kylie’s theme is the mission statement—classic song, high-gloss jacket—while La Roux threads cool, angular synths through the party. Then a curveball like Jason Derulo’s “Get Ugly” drops in, shameless and sticky, as if the dance floor just yanked off its heels. It’s curated chaos, very Patsy-and-Eddy: posh one minute, perilously fun the next.Track Highlights & Scene Connections
“This Wheel’s on Fire” — Kylie Minogue
Theme as thesis. A bobbed classic reimagined as a mirrorball—Kylie leans into sly glamour while keeping the lyric’s warning flame alive. Fits Eddy and Patsy perfectly: they shine, then combust, then somehow make it fashion again.
“Uptight Downtown” — La Roux
Sharp synths, glossy melancholy, and the sense of being both in on the joke and a step behind the cool kids. It scores the film’s London-as-runway mood—glinting skyline, quicker comebacks.
“Get Ugly” — Jason Derulo
The party-starter with no off switch. Brassy horns, gym-bounce rhythm, and a hook engineered for selfies. It’s the sound of Patsy grabbing the aux cord—subtlety politely leaves the room.
Deep cuts that tint the edges
- Paloma Faith serving torch-song bravado with lipstick that could cut glass.
- Legacy selections that nod to the TV show’s DNA—nostalgia without dust.
- Score cues by Jake Monaco, stitching slapstick to tenderness when the friendship peeks through the glitter.
Production & Behind the Scenes
Mandie Fletcher directs; Jennifer Saunders writes (and skewers PR-land with lived-in glee). The soundtrack’s release cadence shadowed the promo wave—Rhino flagged Kylie’s cover as the headline moment, framing the album as both a party playlist and a fan keepsake. Box-office buzz in the UK gave the music a louder megaphone—opening weekend chatter turned into chart flares and heavy rotation in shops and salons.Full Plot & Character Breakdown
Eddy needs a win; Patsy needs a refill. At a fashion bash on the Thames, a scramble to woo Kate Moss goes very, very AbFab—splash—sending the supermodel into the river and our duo into damage control on the Riviera. Cue disguises, “who’s-got-the-Black-Amex,” a wedding feint, and the kind of mother-daughter truce that only arrives after a chase scene. The punchline? Moss is fine, brands want the spectacle anyway, and Eddy somehow lands exactly where she always meant to be: in demand.Main Cast (2016)
- Jennifer Saunders — Edina Monsoon
- Joanna Lumley — Patsy Stone
- Julia Sawalha — Saffron Monsoon
- Jane Horrocks — Bubble
- June Whitfield — Mother (final film role)
- Kate Moss — Herself
- Lulu — Herself

Reception & Social Proof
In Britain, it popped: best UK opening since Spectre at the time, a cheerfully fizzy weekend that proved the brand still had pull. Stateside, the run was quieter; critics landed in the “mixed but amused” pocket. One capsule summed it as doing exactly what it says on the tin—good news if you wanted champagne jokes, terrible news if you didn’t. Another called the satire “scattershot,” yet admitted the details—and the cameos—were decadent fun. Fans? Many walked out quoting Patsy and humming Kylie’s theme, which is frankly the assignment.“Biggest UK film opening of the year… a corking start.” UK box office report
“Scattershot satire… a collection of amusing but disconnected scenes.” NY critic

Why this soundtrack lands
Because it treats taste as play. The selections don’t chase prestige—they chase attitude. You put it on and suddenly your kitchen has better lighting, your coat looks expensive, and your problems feel like plot points. It’s a bottle of something cold in music form.FAQ
