“The Martian”
New film starring Matt Damon has not yet entered on a wide screen and is planned to open the Festival in Toronto in October. The plot includes the main character (Damon) who got into a terrible crash and left on Mars while others, he thought, were dead. After a while, his spaceship began to show some signs of life and NASA realized that the astronaut was actually alive. The thing is it takes four more years for the expedition to reach the Mars and save him but there are only thirty days he can stay alive for sure. So the main intrigue is in wondering will Damon’s character survive or not.
In comparison with other films
“The Martian” has already been compared with “The Interstellar” and “Gravity” but the last one earned a lot of haters because of many factice mistakes. The director Ridley Scott, who is very well-known because of his works on films connected strongly with space theme, was discussed as well as Alfonso Cuaron and Christofer Nolan. Nevertheless, we cannot say that this comparison shown him as a leader of the meant “Power of Three” concerning directors. This new film’s main pro is its availability.
Actors’ play
Damon did his best as only his attitude and his character’s sense of humor sometimes saves the situation and tries to raise it up from the very bottom. All scenes, where the main hero desperately tries to think and make up what to do next in such lack of possibilities are on Damon’s ability to play. When you watch a scene where nothing but person’s doubts are shown for twenty minutes everything that can save it is amazing talent. Background characters are shown in a much less detailed way. What to say about computer effects, they were made by a team of professionals and it would be too weird if a movie with such budget had something worse.
Extra data
Except the plot and some most effective scenes, the next by the range of importance thing was Scott’s return to the space. Metaphorically, of course. After “Riddick” we thought that it was his last attempt and the Universal’s theme would be closed completely, but he is taking chance to surprise everyone by showing from shadow with such a strong statement. Moreover, there was a lot of attention paid to the 3D-effects and they are absolutely in no comparison with the 2-years-old “Gravity”.
