It is definitely not one of such films that will fall to your mind and will live there for a long time like epic blockbusters. It has no ensemble of actors and the entire narrative only holds on actors and their ‘feeling of it’ – the ability to impress us with their acting. Some of us know Jessica Rothe (Jessica Rothenberg is her real name) as an uprising star of cinema and soaps – thanks to recent films ‘Happy Death Day’, ‘La La Land’ & a serial movie ‘Mary + Jane’, in which she took a leading part. Her going to the fame started in 2010 & she gains more & more power on the starry firmament of Hollywood. Especially we love her for fantastically vivid & alive face with a super rich batch of emotions. It is always interesting to look at her purely visually. Especially when she smiles or having ‘a touch of a smile’ on a face. It is devastatingly bad luck she doesn’t sing in a movie – her mature & deep voice would give extra colors to lyrics of any song.
Alex Roe is her starring partner. He performs here a couple of songs like ‘Don't Water Down My Whiskey’ or ‘Smokin' and Criyin'’. They all have not too deep but entertaining lyrics so we guess, the country style of music in a family movie like this one is just right to make it be not boring. As for us, the casting producers of the movie could pick up the better-looking guy to depict the antagonist. He is not too pretty, not too charming & obviously, not too smart.
The other performers in a soundtrack are Little Big Town, who owe practically all other songs in a collection performed not by antagonist: ‘Little White Church’, ‘Can't Go Back’, ‘Live Forever’ and so on.
Well, is it good to watch it once? Definitely. To cry on it, to recall your own bad love or any other non-accomplished romance. But whether this will be named a film of the year in any nomination? Definitely not.
