Winter Wonderland Lyrics – Bob Dylan
Soundtrack Album: Bad Santa 2
Winter Wonderland Text
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.
Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.
When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Walking in a winter wonderland,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.
Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.
When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Walking in a winter wonderland,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Bob Dylan’s uplifting creation – so you to understand – it came from a guy, who wasn’t too distinguishing with a festive mood. It is unfortunate that a video is a cover made by some guy, not Bob Dylan originally. Nevertheless, it is possible to make an analysis.
What do you expect from a Christmas song? Must it be filled with ringing sleighs, glistening snow, the happiness of the people around, and beautiful sights? Or maybe it will be some sort of winter wonderland when you think that this year is like a bird, which slips through your fingers and flies away, and the upcoming year is a new bird coming to your hands? Or maybe there’ll be some snow-covered meadow where it will be so comfortable to construct the snowman? This song has all the above-mentioned and even more – it has bigger philosophical sense. As, besides the listing the compound items of this winter holiday, it says that there’ll be a big fire, where some people will burn the fears and old grieves and will be able to look ahead with expectation and with no fear. Thus, it all transforms after these words – the constructed snowman turns into something that they are building in their lives, overcoming the obstacles. Circus clown, whom they imagine this snowman, turns into non-acceptance of the restrictions and limitations of the society around – and, imagining them all as clownery, they gain strengths to overcome and beat them.
The lines
‘We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.’
can be interpreted as the temporariness of everything that is built and created. But they realize that the efforts are not in vain as what was built once, must die someday, but what is most important is the timeline between the origin and the death of things. We also understand this.
What is next in the lyrics – the singer/songwriter says that whatever snow it fell, they are wandering the winter wonderland. It may be interpreted as whatever obstacles they face during the life they’ll still walk their path.
We also must say that this Christmas song wasn’t originally sung by Mr. Dylan. He only used what was before him – it was firstly done in 1933, by Felix Bernard and Richard B. Smith. They both are dead now, and the latter died only at the age of 34, the reason of death was tuberculosis. Fortunately, Bob Dylan is still alive (unlike Leonard Cohen, who died 4 days before this review of a song was created, RIP).
You know, when you take to describe what Bob Dylan is remarkable with, you just stop doing that, as it is impossible to highlight the biggest significance. Maybe, he may be proud of his 6 children? Or a noble prize in literature received in 2016? Or a fact that his songs and albums don’t’ fit onto single Wiki page, which is extremely rare (37 albums and unimaginable, the outstanding number of 522 songs)? Well, the best guess would be to combine them all into one remarkable shiny life way.
