Someone Gets Hurt Lyrics – Reneé Rapp

"Someone Gets Hurt" by Reneé Rapp, performed by Regina George in the musical, delves into themes of vulnerability, deception, and emotinal pain behind a façade of perfection. Regina begins by acknowledging her appearance as the "Ice Queen," a persona expected of her, which is all a show. This acknowledgment sets the stage for exploring the dichotomy between her public persona and her inner emotional reality. Regina confronts the idea of being used, "Face it, you used me, You saw the sexy clothes, My supermodel pose," indicating a relization that her physical appearance and the allure it projects have led to superficial relationships. Her questioning, "Was I a game to you? Was I a way to be cool?" reflects deep hurt and a sense of betrayal, pondering whether her feelings were ever truly reciprocated or if she was merely a means to an end. The chorus, "It's fine for you, It's fine to flirt, It's fine, 'Til someone gets hurt," serves as a poignant reminder of the emotional consequences that often follow seemingly harmless actions like flirting or playing with someone's feelings. Regina's line, "Feel my heart beating? I'm just like her or you, People forget I'm human too," emphasizes her humanity, a plea for recognition beyond her Ice Queen façade. She expresses the pain of being overlooked as a person with genuine emotions. The song shifts to a tone of empowerment mixed with sarcasm in the lines, "It's fine for you, It's fine to flirt, And God, you're hot, Why do you even wear a shirt?" Here, Regina asserts herself, yet the underlying hurt from being passed over for someone else remains evident. In summary, "Someone Gets Hurt" captures Regina George's complex emotional state, where beneath her perfect, poised exterior lies a world of hurt, vulnerability, and a longing to be seen and loved for who she truly is. The song is a powerful exploration of the emotional turmoil and the impact of superficial relationships on one's self-worth and emotional well-being.
