Greenland National Anthem Lyrics – The Producers

The Grenland National Anthem, "Nunarput, utoqqarsuanngoravit," is a profound reflection of Greenland’s heritage and identity. It starts with a metaphor for the nation's age and wisdom: "Nunarput, utoqqarsuanngoravit niaqqut ulissimavoqq qiinik" (Our country, who's become so old, your head is all covered with white hair). This imagery suggests Greenland’s vast, snow-covered landscapes, symbolizing both the nation's beauty and harsh environment. A central theme of the anthem is the importance of legacy, emphasized in thr line, "Qitornatit kissumiaannarpatit tunillugit sineriavit piinik" (Always keep your descendants in mind, the ones who will occupy your place). This highlights the responsibility of current generations to preserve and pass on their cultural and environmental heritage. The metaphor of birds learning to fly symbolizes the nurturing nature of Greenland, fostering growth and learning. The anthem also encourages progress and forward-thinking, urging Greenlanders to improve the path for those growing up and carrying forward the nation’s legacy. Concluding with a rallying cry, the anthem calls for moving beyond past challenges: "Taqilluni naami atunngiveqaaq, kalaallit siumut makigitsi" (Having lived in darkness for so long, Greenlanders, let's move forward). This serves as a unifying call to respect the past while working towards a better future, embodying Greenland's resilient spirit and hope for tomorrow.
