Annotations and Meaning:

"Brutal Hope" by Jeremy Noel is a very poignant attempt to express one's relationship with love. The name of the track, "Brutal Hope," contains in itself the key principle of contrast for such relationships—so painful and inexplicably full of hope. Repeated in the lyrics is the description of this love as "heavy," pointing exactly to the enormous nature of its influence and the difficulty of easily moving on beyond its grasp. "This brutal love is heavy" is a repeated line in the song, referring to how he has to heap such excess emotional baggage upon the poor listener time and time again. It focused on a person's struggle to get out of a bad situation while struggling through a relationship whose compelling, almost addictive nature made it hard to let go. What is more, it gives the sense that a person gets stuck in a certain cycle, as it is said in the line "Caught up in the middle of this broken dream" and "I know you even try, but you won't let me in." These lyrics evoke the idea of reconciliatory actions or attempts at understanding, going to naught and doing nothing more than leading to another cycle of pain and temporary mending.
