When They Fight They Fight — Generationals Lyrics
Soundtrack: The Edge of Seventeen
When They Fight They Fight Song Lyrics
When they fight, they fight
And when they come home at night they say,
"I love you, baby."
Was it too much too soon,
Or too little too late?
He got the message she left on his car, in the rain.
And then the words they come to you,
Driving away.
You just can't let it go.
And when they fight, they fight,
And when they come home at night they say,
"I love you, baby."
And when it all comes crashing down,
What can you do,
To find what you're looking for?
And then the words will come to you,
Driving through the rain.
But there'll be no one there to say them to anyway.

There is a representative of indie pop and new wave in front of us. Despite the fact that there is no single girl in the band, in this song, they actively use the female’s vocals. The musicians are Grant Widmer (vocals/guitars) and Ted Joyner (vocals/guitars).
This song was used in several films, TV shows, and commercials. The clip on this 3:20 song is rather absent – YouTube gives you the steady picture. In addition to some low-budget commercials, this song was also used by Amazon Kindle in advertising in Germany and the UK in 2012. The peculiar thing – no other songs of this duo were used so broadly in anything of the above-mentioned as of today. So, this song may be considered the most soundtrack-successful item of theirs.
They connect themselves to The Doors (on their official MySpace page), but they are rather tied with girlish singing for youngsters, who are flipping the magazines with Zooey Deschanel. The latter is also connected with music, she is a singer/songwriter and even maybe – maybe, as we don’t insist on that – can perform better than these two people from this sugary band. Just listen to their tunes (which are many, yes) to understand you can associate this band with too sweet 1970-ies, where everyone was happy and the US was in most dramatic prosperity ever. If you don’t believe us in the estimate of this tune full of ease, gaiety and the opposition of wisdom, just play it several times to realize short after that this song has firmly stuck in your head.
The lyrics are about the parents of some imaginable kid (or maybe a singer was this kid being a little boy), who is fighting all the time and when they return home, they don’t want to traumatize a boy and so they say him they love him. He asks himself, when and what did he miss, when his parents became like this and – what is most important for him – do they still love him or he is the main reason for their fighting. He also philosophizes about the way how do his parents have to reflect on the fight that just has happened. It means that after they have quarreled, his parent one sits in the car and drives off in the rain. And the parent two receives a note saying of it and realizes he may have been wrong. And the words of truce must come to the head of the parent one while she will be driving the car under the heavy rain. What is so important about this song – we don’t have any slightest idea, but this must be of high importance to a kid, who is frightened in his room, not sleeping and waiting for what will happen next.
As for the band – they were formed in 2008, released their first album in 2009 and since then, they already have 4 albums (the last one was in 2014).
It should be mentioned that this is one of the most cheerful things in the soundtrack to the movie ‘The Edge of Seventeen.’
