Not Fade Away / Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad Lyrics – Grateful Dead

Not Fade Away / Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad Text

---

I wanna tell you it's gonna be
You're gonna give your love to me
I wanna love you night and day
You know our lovin' not fade away
You know our lovin' not fade away
Not fade away

My love is bigger than a Cadillac
I try to show you but you drive me back
Your love for me has gotta be real
You're gonna know just how I feel
A love that's real not fade away
Not fade away

Going down the road feeling bad
Going down the road feeling bad
Going down the road feeling bad, hey hey hey, yeah
Don't wanna be treated this a way

Going where the climate suits my clothes
I'm going where the climate suits my clothes
Going where the climate suits my clothes
Don't wanna be treated this a way

[chorus]

Going where the water tastes like wine
Well I'm going where the water tastes like wine
Going where the water tastes like wine
I don't wanna be treated this a way

When the song was being developed in the early 1970s, Jerry Garcia sang a number of additional verses. This from 6 November 1970:
My mother told me, "Son don't go down there"
Momma told "Don't go way down there"
Momma told "Don't go way down there, down there"
Don't wanna be treated this a way

And this from 29 April 1971 (thanks to Brad Dilli for pointing it out):
I'm going where those chilly winds don't blow
I'm going where those chilly winds don't blow
Going where those chilly winds don't blow
Don't want to be treated this way
