Сhristmas Wish Lyrics – Mark Roberts

"Christmas Wish" by Mark Roberts is a poignant song that captures the bitersweet emotions of longing and reminiscence during the festive season. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of traditional Christmas imagery juxtaposed with the pain of missing a loved one. The opening verse, "I light a candle, put the presents ‘round the tree, The sound of carrols fills the air," sets a scene of festive preparation, suggesting a warmth and joy typically associated with Christmas. However, the line "Outside the snow is falling, hear the children calling, The way it always used to be" introduces a tone of nostalgia, hinting at a longing for past Christmases and the way things once were. The reference to past shared moments, "I still remember how we love this time of th’year, We kissed beneath the mistletoe," evokes a deep sense of personal loss, contrasting the current loneliness with past happiness. The imagery of holding ivy and feeling arms around oneself underscores a yearning for the physical presence of the loved one. In the chorus, "I'm writing to Santa, I just have to say, Oh, please send my baby back for Christmas day," the act of writing to Santa serves as a metaphor for the desperate hope and longing for the return of the loved one. It's a heartfelt plea, blending the innocence of childlike faith with the deep desire of an adult's heart. The song continues with "I hear the church bells ringing all across the town, I shouldn't cry but still I do," which captures the internal conflict of trying to stay joyful in a season of happiness while being overwhelmed by sadness. The snowflake imagery, "I catch the falling snowflakes, And as they melt, my heart breaks," symbolizes the fleeting nature of joy in the singer's current state of solitude. "Christmas Wish" is a moving portrayal of the loneliness and longing one can feel during a season typically filled with joy and togetherness, highlighting the emotional complexity of the holidays when missing someone dearly.
