It's Only Christmas Once A Year Lyrics – Norah Jones

"It's Only Christmas Once A Year" by Norah Jones is a song that pognantly captures the essence of holiday anticipation and the profound longing for togetherness. The lyrics blend a sense of festive tradition with an underlying current of yearning for the presence of a loved one. The song opens with "It's only Christmas once a year, So gaher round the tree, I'll pour you a cup of cheer, Please wear a smile for me," setting a scene of classic Christmas warmth and conviviality. Yet, the request for a smile hints at an unspoken depth of feeling, possibly a longing for someone who is absent, adding a bittersweet tone to the festive imagery. Jones's verse, "I'm counting on my fingers all the days till you'll be here, Please say that you're coming home for Christmas time," further underscores the theme of anticipation. The act of counting down the days enhances the sense of earnest longing for the arrival of a significant person, emphasizing the emotional significance of this reunion during the holiday season. Reflecting on the past, "Last year was so hard with all the friends I couldn't see, Christmas without you was not as bright as it could be," the song acknowledges the loneliness and diminished joy of celebrating the holidays in the absence of loved ones. This sentiment resonates with many who have experienced separation, particularly in times of widespread challenges that have forced people apart. Additionally, "Gather all your loved ones, hold them close to your heart," touches on the unpredictability of life and the importance of cherishing moments with loved ones. The song, with its blend of festive cheer and emotional longing, becomes a poignant reminder of the value of togetherness and the special place holiday traditions hold in bringing people together.
