Annotations and Meaning:

"Família," by Mary Dandrea, on the soundtrack of "A Infância de Romeu e Julieta," is a complete representation of what a family involves, having both happy and sad moments in their natural routines. The song projects an alternative to the rather realistic picture; the colorful jigsaw family members like parts of a puzzle to fit with difficulty one after another, finding the right place for this or that piece. The first verse of the lyrics figuratively refers to the family as "Quebra-cabeça colorido," laying emphasis on the diversity of the members in the family, in a manner that every unit member differs from the other in traits and features. It portrays the mind of how it's hard to put these things together in the right alignment, but still, it's worth putting in the effort to produce something as a whole that is harmonious. These regular family gatherings, like "almoço de domingo" (Sunday lunch), underline gathering around the table and sharing meals as a tradition that evokes fellowship and family life. They provide for the regular coming together of the family around the table, sharing the meal. This is what calls for fellowship and family life. Even the neighbors come in at such family gatherings, which make it so inclusive and expansive for family members. The song really gets more into the definition of family beyond a biological bond when it goes on to say, "Família não é só laço de sangue" (Family is not just a blood tie). It means to be intimate friends and the kind of people who give you comfort and company. In other words, it is much more up-to-date than old-fashioned. The whole song keeps underlining that the family is a source of unconditional support, with phrases like "O abraço quentinho na volta pra casa, Porto-seguro" (The warm hug when coming back home, safe harbor). It means there will surely be some troubles ("Vês em quando tem uma briguinha") from time to time; however, the core family is the only place where fights can be sorted out via conversation and understanding.

Themes and Messages:

It centralizes the themes of unity and welcome in the family life-long constant offered—whether by blood or choice. The words of the song carry the message to accept the imperfections in family relations with due concern to enhance love and bring about a feeling of protection. This would enable the appreciation necessary of the togetherness moments and receipt of pleasure from any family interactions. This could mean that the experiences that have been above said are one of the basic without which one cannot get along in life. Interwoven into the catchy and heartrending tune of "Família," it uplifts not only the emotional depth of the film where it belongs but also resonates with the listener in its celebration of the universal themes that are part and parcel of family life. In essence, the song avails one of the reminder value of cherishing and nurturing family ties, hence making the most out of time spent with loved ones.
