Annotations and Meaning:

"Lado Torre" by Leo Ramos, from the soundtrack "A Infância de Romeu e Julieta," is a tale of ambition, development, and the compulsive chase of progress from the point of view of urban growth. Their lyrics start off with the forward-sounding "O amanhã é a gente que faz," forward-sounding mantras that can only instill a mood of being in control and active about the future while letting go of the past. The song majorly focuses on the brand-new investments within the metropolis, like buildings, shopping centers, luxury apartments, representing a drive towards modernization in the metropolis and development of riches. The sentence "vou construir mais um prédio aqui" is repeated, thus emphasizing an impulse of the development that really lies in the theme of change and growth. Central in the lyrics is the open jubilation of the business acumen, as is portrayed in the lines of the chorus, "É o que? É nosso negócio". This refrain shows not only the spirit of venturing out by the characters but also tends to reflect the business set up as that of defining nature. Phrases like "Somos a nata tipo alfa da pirâmide" add to that feeling of elitism and success, serving to position them at the top of society. The active calls to action, for example, "vamo, vamo, construir nosso negócio," are driving chants to the song's momentum, showing the unending chase of capitalist purposes. The many allusions of "lado torre" bring out an image of a certain side of the community, possibly the developed or rich one, but compared with other views within the same societal configuration.

Themes and Messages:

The song points to the problems of progress, capitalism, and social stratification. It reflects on how ambitions and achievements can point or dictate a community's identity and future direction, literally. While it celebrates the vitality and results of high-stakes entrepreneurship, it insidiously questions what that really means when any goal is single-mindedly focused on material and commercial success.
