Annotations and Meaning:

"Sublime" played by Davi Lins, it is one of the tracks from the film "A Infância de Romeu e Julieta." The song is of deep, acutely emotional content, describing the passionate, profound senses from the act of loving. Embodied in the lyrics is the confusion of reality from illusion upon the reception of these strong emotions that wrap up the fear of losing this new love. "Se é ilusão ou razão / Nem sei, o que quero é mais / Se for um sonho, eu não desejo acordar": in the opening, here she expresses a want to stay in the blissful experience of love, bringing out a character with strong feelings of romance. This sets the pace for a song that dives into the vulnerabilities and uncertainties of opening one's heart again after so long in the dormancy of emotions. The lyrics make real and emotional some response to the gaze of the beloved one: "Quando senti o seu olhar / Meu corpo inteiro estremeceu". The answer is said to describe love waking the body up in a real and emotional sense. The singer acknowledges that, through refusing to love again, and when done very cautiously, loving again is what makes this experience of the present love all the more moving and revolutionizing. With every line of the song, it tends to grow more potent in drawing the kind of love for restoration, with lines such as "sentir tão forte a emoção no coração / Como a primeira vez, senti queimar / Um fogo de paixão." This reignited passion is then compared with fire to hint at its warmth and a force that is violent and all-consuming. The refrain, "Sublime é amar / Você," and the repeating phrase of "Pra sempre, sempre / Amar você," solidify that this is the theme to the song: enduring love, of which it is also sublime to be in such a deep emotional connection. The word "sublime" presupposes that love is characterized not only as an amazing and beautiful feeling but also as one of those kinds of feelings or experiences that are almost spiritual or transcendent.

Themes and Messages:

"Sublime" poses the power of love as a renewing, glorious, or terrifying force of change. It speaks of the bravery it takes to allow oneself again to love from the heart that is broken and the sublime happiness one gets through real, deep emotional connections.
